Western Ranger

Western Ranger Project

Project Duration:

  • 9 weeks: Vessel arrived in Nelson 23rd May and sailed 30th July.

Project Background:

  • The vessel suffered a major structural failure when the main mast collapsed down across the deck while fishing.

This required the removal of all the lifting gear and mast. Before this could be done all the wiring and hydraulics running through the mast had to be disconnected along with the fish pump and associated equipment.

Once a full assessment was done, a plan was formulated to reinstate the mast and lifting gear under the direction of the Surveyor and Insurance company.

This required a new base section for the mast to be manufactured and some structural repairs to the vessel.

    New lifting booms manufactured.

A full replacement of the rigging and lifting wires.

All hydraulic and electrical services reinstated for the mast, lifting gear and fish pump.

The vessel was due for a full-term survey including the application of a full pant system.  All survey work was carried out by AIMEX in conjunction with the repair work to the vessel.

Project Outcome:

  • The project was professionally managed coming in on time and on budget.

The Western Ranger sailed from Nelson and completed a successful fishing trip back into the home port of Tauranga.
